When people from across the world think of Australia, they often think of Kangaroos. As a matter of fact, the Aussies do also - the marsupial is not just native to the great land down under - they're a national symbol. You'll find kangaroos in Coats of Arms, and patriotic designs (including the good ol' Boxing Kangaroo), and they're often used as symbols representing Australia in fields that range as widely from sports to businesses.
They may look cute and cuddly to you tourists, and for the most part they're harmless. But get one of them pissed off at you and you'll find yourself being boxed by an angry roo who will most likely kick ya across the bloody room too! But besides being cute yet tough (just like us Aussies, eh?), they're also good eating... well, not everyone eats roos, but they should! Best tucker in the world, mate!
You see, the Kangaroo may be an unusual yet cute and furry creature to you, but they're also a symbol of resilience. They've lived in the great land and the dry outback for centuries; and have perservered the harshness of these areas. That's more than you can say for backpackers, eh?
Either way, they're our national symbol. Check out some of these videos below which give you an idea of how this amazing creature is not only unique, but a good ol' Aussie "bad ass" as well:
