In Alice Springs, Australia, there is an unusual event that not many people outside of the country have ever heard of. It's a boat race in a river - without water. Yes, you read that correctly. It's a dry river bed, and they have boat races on it. What the?
The Henley-on-Todd Regatta is an annual boat race held in the dry base of the Todd River. It is the only boat race in the world that was cancelled once because of rain (with there being water in the river).
Basically, participants construct their "boats", which they then "row" down the river by running it down. Basically the bottom is cut out, and they run holding the boat.

And believe it or not, The Henley-On-Todd Regatta also has its own official website, which you can check out right here! More info on the history behind the event is also available at Wikipedia.
